Floor Prep

WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A FLOOR PREPPED?

When concrete slabs are poured, screeded and finished, they are very rarely completely flat and level, and this is why some clients will choose to have the concrete ground flat, rather than add a levelling compound to raise it. This is because it’s more cost effective, in most cases, to grind it flat.

Once the floor is flat, this provides the perfect canvas for other floor coverings to be installed. Placing a new floor covering that requires placement over existing concrete floors can be risky. If the floor has had spills or has been contaminated from other tradesmen that have been working on the concrete floor, this may result in the adhesive not bonding to the unprepared concrete floor. In turn, lifting can occur.

With a prep grind, we can clean and remove any contaminants that the concrete floor may have, and the end result leaves you with a contaminant free surface that’s ideal for your adhesive to ‘key’ into.

Glue, adhesive, epoxy paints and hump removal

Glue and adhesive residue, epoxy or paint on a concrete surface can be very difficult, and in most cases, a nightmare to remove, particularly if the glue or coating has been on the concrete floor for a number of years and it’s rock hard. However, with Concrete Grindpro advanced technology, specialised grinders and specific diamond shoes, we are able to remove just about anything from any concrete flooring surface.

Benefits of Floor Preparation:

  • Cost effective
  • Peace of mind
  • Contaminant free surface
  • Good key for adhesive to bond
