Growth Suburbs, Lifestyle Blocks and Coastal Builds

Rodney covers a lot of ground, and the work changes considerably depending on where in it you are.

The Hibiscus Coast end, Silverdale, Millwater, Orewa and Whangaparāoa, has been one of Auckland's fastest growing areas for years. That means new slabs, and plenty of them. A new build is the best possible starting point for a polished floor, because there's nothing to strip off and we can work on an open slab before the joinery goes in, which is both cheaper and better around the edges.

Head further north and it becomes lifestyle country. Warkworth, Matakana, Snells Beach and Omaha are full of larger properties, architectural coastal homes and sheds, and the jobs there tend to be more varied. A polished floor through the living areas, a grind and seal in the shed, and often something non-slip around a pool or outdoor area where the concrete gets wet.

Coastal properties bring their own considerations. Salt air, sand tracked in constantly, and outdoor areas that take real weather. Polished concrete handles the inside of that well. For patios, paths and pool surrounds, a sealed or textured finish is usually the better call, and we'll tell you which suits your particular situation.

Because Rodney stretches a fair way, it helps to give us a bit of notice. We can often line your job up alongside other work in the same area, which keeps the travel component sensible.

Polished Concrete for Rodney New Builds and Renovations

If you're building in Millwater, Silverdale or anywhere through the Hibiscus Coast, your slab is already there. Whether it becomes the floor is worth deciding early.

Polishing an open slab before the joinery and skirtings go in costs less, moves faster and gives a better result around the edges and doorways. New concrete needs at least 28 days to cure first, and on most builds the sensible sequence is two-staged: the main grind early, then the final refinement and protection once the other trades are finished.

The finish is the concrete itself rather than a coating, so there's nothing on top to peel or wear through. Polished floors carry a 10-year warranty with a straightforward care routine, which suits a coastal home where sand and traffic would make short work of most floor coverings.

For renovations on older Rodney properties, it's the same process in reverse. Whatever's on the slab comes off first, then we find out what's underneath. Jay will tell you honestly what your concrete can give you before you commit to anything.
